Introduction
It is speculated that this historical reflection on the Gyabo people in Liberia could be one of few written accounts of the history of the Gyabo people, as a sub-Grebo Tribe found in the southeastern region of Liberia; if it is not the only account. The accounts documented in this version are primarily drawn from oral narrations recorded in cassettes in 1979, by the Research and Information Committee of the United Gyabo Youth Organization (UGYO). The Research Team to Gayboland comprised Joseph T. Theoway, Jr., Chairman and the late Roosevelt D. Dioh, Secretary, both served as Chairman and Secretary of the organizing committee of UGYO respectively.
The Gyabo Youth League was founded in 1950 and later became United Gyabo Youth Organization in 1978 for the purpose of uniting young people hailing from Gyaboland otherwise known as Garraway. The membership was originally opened to college and high school students in Monrovia and its environs. The goal of UGYO was to organize extra curriculum activities to enhance the learning process of its members and to encourage them learn about Gyaboland.
