Senegal Orphanage - 1/14/2024

The trip to Saly, Senegal, was from January 9th to 17th, 2024, to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. Before traveling to Senegal, I had some charity work in mind and therefore contacted the La Pouponniere Orphanage in Mbour at the recommendation of a nearby friend. This Orphanage had about ninety (95) children from 0 to 6 years old. It is located in the Mbour community, about one hour from our hotel. I reached out to the Orphanage to inquire about their needs. They responded to my inquiry by forwarding a list of needed items.

On Sunday, January 14th,2024, my husband, a few friends, and I visited the Orphanage, where I donated all the requested items.

Charity means a lot to me. I always feel I should give back to the least fortunate, whatever environment I find myself in when I can afford it.

I believe a giving heart should have no boundaries. I am a Liberian American who believes there are enormous needs worldwide, even in the most developed countries. Therefore, kindness or giving back in our communities or wherever we travel is much needed. Humanitarian endeavors do not always have to be done collectively but also individually. Going on a vacation and doing a random act of kindness at that destination is necessary and rewarding.

Putting a smile on the face of a stranger through charity feels great.
